Cue blizzard of exclamation points!

To help explain the complete radio silence on my part lately, I have some good news and some bad news. We’ll start with the bad news: I’ve had to stop working on HUNTED. I wrote the first 30,000 words of the book in just a bit over two weeks, and have been having so much fun with it. But I’m stopping for a good reason, so that assuages my guilt somewhat.

The reason, you ask? Well…

Yeah, wait for it…

I HAVE AN AGENT! *cue dancing*

I’ve been so quiet on my blog and on Twitter lately because all I’ve wanted to do is share this whole process with you guys, but I couldn’t once offers started coming in! I ended up getting my first offer of representation about two weeks after I started querying, which was WAY sooner than I’d expected, given that it’s the holidays and so many people are busy. It meant that I had to make a decision at a really unfortunate time of year, when many agents and agencies are going on hiatus. I ended up getting a few emails from agents saying that they couldn’t read it until January but if I was willing to wait they’d read it as soon as they got back from vacation.

In other circumstances I would’ve been thrilled to get those emails and wait until January, but as it turned out, I got offers from a number of agents, and was really happy with my options. I loved speaking with them, and could see myself working with each of them. In the end though, I had to go with my heart and my gut, and I’m thrilled to announce that I’ve signed with Josh Adams of Adams Literary!

I’m completely excited to work with him and the rest of the team at Adams Literary, and am so looking forward to diving back into revisions on THE IRON WOOD and getting it polished up. I think it’s going to be an awesome partnership, and I can’t wait to move forward. Yeah, it means that I need to put HUNTED aside for a while to focus on TIW, but I think that’s a pretty fair trade-off. (Yeah, I think I’m willing to take that hit.)

Thank you everyone for being such a huge help during the past couple weeks, especially Sarah, Kat, and Lindsay, for keeping me sane (ish), offering advice, and being excited for me when I was too shell-shocked to even understand what was going on. Seriously, it took a good week from the first call before I suddenly went “OH MY GOD, WHAT?” and promptly freaked out for an entire three-day period. Tears, hyperventilating, lack of sleep/food/oxygen, the whole deal.

The other writers I’ve gotten to meet over the past few days have been amazing, especially Michelle, whose call made me CRY because she was so sweet and understanding. And I also want to say thank you to my brand new agency sister Veronica Rossi, who took time out of her family holiday to chat with me about Adams Literary, and tell me about her experiences with them. Plus, I am absolutely dying to read her book!

Most of all I need to thank Amie, my CP and housemate, for putting up with me over the past several weeks. She believed in TIW even when I absolutely hated it. And to her credit, Amie has only said “I told you so” about a dozen times. It could be much, much worse.

Happy holidays, guys! <3 And here’s to an awesome new year.

Hey, when you’re right, you’re right! What you should have said is that I have only said ‘I told you so’ a dozen times SO FAR.

You are gorgeous and talented and clever, and just as importantly, you are incredibly hard working. You’re right that I’ve always believed in TIW. It’s a fantastic book and deserved all the attention it’s had over the last couple of weeks! Woo!

  18. [...] That’s right, we have had news of the book deal persuasion. Many of you know that my friend and critique partner, Meagan Spooner (usually referred to here as Meg) has been living with Husband and I for the last year, taking some time to concentrate on her writing. At the end of last year she signed with the amazing Josh Adams of Adams Literary. [...]
